Snow 2009

Hello,

So after talking with you all last night. The snow kept coming down and we went for a little adventure to see what was going on.
This is the View of our place and our lights.

This is our little car - looks like we are in a nice blizzard aye!
I had to make a snow angel, the streets were so perfect with snow falling
Mike and I enjoying the snow, we went inside for a nice mug of hot chocolate soon after our walk around the block to see other peoples decorations. I think our block has the best lights! except for the houses that are near our apartment complex

Then in the morning we woke up and find this outside our door. Lucky it didn't fall in as we opened up!
Outside our place - thats our car with the blades sticking up, with our little santa covered up and a huge hill of snow to climb over! - Lucky our complex did what they said and cleaned up all the snow - oh no sorry they didn't we had to dig out ourselves. Along with all the neigbours.
Check out how deep it was
Mike and I were suppose to go to work at the store today, but the owner came to pick us up since we couldn't get out. We went to the store and cleaned up the sidewalk, just incase someone came walking and tripped and hurt themselves they couldn't sue him. So after we cleaned up, put some rock salt down we headed back home and started to dig out our own cars. Since the complex still had not provided any clean up team, even after writing a letter to everyone to move cars - too bad they were snowed in and we couldn't!

This is one of the streets of the main st as we headed into work
Mike and Brendon treading through the snow to the Sayville Running store.
This is fun to do when there is lots of snow and something to jump of - but its still cool!

So this was the day of snow in NY, its been one of the best snow falls since my first year here in NY, but they say it was even better then that snowfall. It was good to enjoy it on a Sunday, tomorrow wont be so much fun when I have to try and get to work and the roads will still not been that clean and will ice over during the night. Lets hope someone cleaned up our parking lot at work!

Hope you enjoy the pics and your nice summer!

Thanks giving Day Race

This thanksgiving I started it off with a 5mile race, along with 3000 other people in Garden City, its a popular thing to do, as there were a few others around the Island reaching the 1000s racing. All so they can go home and feast out on food and drink for the rest of the day. But this race was good, nice day for it. A little on the cold side, but I didnt need gloves so it wasn't to bad at all.
Before the race started I saw another person who could be a challenge, we started out the 1st mile together, so it was a little quicker then I planned, but thats ok, she dropped back and I was just chasing the guys after that.
The course was mainly flat, but had a few inclines in it.
I was the first women in 27.17, which was the course record.
I also walked away with:

Not the bag, but the camera, which is valued around $200USD so its pretty sweet upgrade on what I have, I have to play around with it more, not as easy as my other point and shot!
I also got a $35 gift card to Best buy, which is an electronic store. So thats going to Mikes imac computer he wants only $1665 to go now. hahaha I dont think so!

Here are some pics also of the race that Mike took...enjoy - not with the new camera obviously as I had not won it yet! :)

Well I am off to have left over turkey dinner - will get you those pics one of these days.

Pics

Ok, so I have been trying to send you guys some pics for awhile, have had difficulty with the computer whenever I try, I am trying again:

These pics are from
the O2S realy, they
took forever to do the realy, when our teams complete the realy in 4+ hrs and some are still out there for 8hrs and they waited for most of them to come in we didnt have all the members of our team hang around, so we are the remaining 3. This is the Sayville Running Co winning Men and Womens teams

Ok so thats all the pics for now - its giving me issues again, and I can not be bothered. Next will be the pics from Mikes Marathon, whenever I get round to it and be bothered spending time with it to have issue.

TIM TAMS

So Mike and I went to the supermarket to pick up some milk the other day. walking along and chatting away and then I realize Mike has stopped and I am just a crazy person talking to myself. I turn around to see Mike steering at a display, so I go and see what it is and this is what we see:

Thats right Tim Tams - Australians favorite cookie - its ok we can forgive them for saying that - we now have Tim Tams in the USA, so of course we had to get them - had to make sure they were just a good. - and yes they have passed the Mike test and are pretty much the real thing.
So thanks to Pepperidge Farm and their search for something new - reading the fine print it is from the real thing.

So if you send us anything you no longer have to send Tim Tams.

Running

Ok, so I have been slack as with keeping up the blog, but not a lot had been happening, well a lot thats why no blogging. As you all know I have a job in a doctors office, Urology specialty, the office I work in is not to far from where I went to school, about a 30min drive from where we are living, pretty smooth run, so its not to bad. They also have offices elsewhere. Went once to one further out due to short staff out there. I also go to one that is 3omins from where I live out east more on Fridays, so get some varity. Its just a lot of answering phones and calling people to remind them of appointments and yelling at deaf old people who answer phones.

But other then that Mike ran his first marathon, we travelled to Pennsylvania with a friend of ours who was also running, it was about a 3hr drive. So Sunday Morning they went out and I had breakfast until it was time to see them at the finish - it was a point to point run, so hard to see them else where. see Mikes blog for pics and vid. He ran well 2.44, which was pretty decent and there was no massive wall for him at the end, so it was a good first marathon

www.hurricaneone.blogsplot.com

after the race on the monday, which is a holiday here we went to a pumpkin picking farm, the people we went with had kids, so the farm was pretty good for them, some rides and games to do. so we walked around there did the Pumpkin cannon and sling shot with a pumpkin. The cannon had targets to try and hit and the sling shot had buckets to try and get the pumpkin in, Mike was oh so close.

Today mike and I also ran another race. The Sleepy hollow 5k, there was a $100 for the win and $100 for course record, so I had to run faster then 17.23. There was also a costume competition, So Mike still recovering from the marathon dressed up as Quail Man (from the cartoon Doug) it was pretty sweet.
So it turned out to be a nice day after yesterday rains. It was sunny and pretty good temp, a little chill to the air. The race went through some trails around a lake, once side was paved one was trail. I ended up 2nd overall and 1st women and I took the bonus for a $200 pay day and a time of 16.42. The team I run for (Mikes store) was 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall. The owner of the store - who I nearly bet won the race.

Mike did well for a person in costume, unfortunately we had to leave to go to work so didnt get to see if Mike won best dressed, not sure what he would have got anyway.

If I get any pics or anything more will let you know, but for now, I have to get ready for work tomorrow, no long weekend for me like you lucky people had. Hope it was a good one.

Running

So I have now 2 races and I have been slack as to give the update, but here it is.
The first race was a mile road race, net downhill, first quarter downhill then up, then back down to the half and then flat and my winning kick to break the course record and the bonus winnings. $200 bucks for my 4.44 of running - which people have been working what that is per hr etc - wouldn't it be nice to have that income! lol
anyway here are the results

we did not race with the guys, they separated them, but mixed the results.
The major issue with this course is that it goes over a train tack half way. They have all the officials making sure the trains have gone and check everything so that we don't get caught, however this year there was an unscheduled train for the last bunch of the women races.

Mike also raced and he was 3rd picking up 50 bucks, so it was a good day for us both.

2nd race was this weekend, no money for this one. It is a relay called Ocean to Sound, so we start at Jones beach and loop our way up to the North Shore of the Island, 50miles end up in Oyster Bay. There are 8 people per team, there are open Men and open Women and then mixed teams and masters.
They also have a costume award and the winner were the Nintendo players who ran in Mario and friends outfits and in the carts they race in. so they had boxes around them for their legs which average around 6miles.

Here are the results, I was the Sayville women's team, 12th overall and I was the 7th leg.
We won the Women's division.

Sorry No pics.

Mikes team was the overall winners, with all sorts of drama going on in their races, the team originally leading got lost and then Mikes team did also. Officials are mainly lazy long island police and have no idea what is really going on and markers you have to hunt for. so its all about getting your team to the finish without getting lost. That's why we followed our runners the whole way and why Mikes teams getting lost wasn't too bad, even tho they were following there runner too. Mike also ran leg 7.

That's all for now, off for a work out

Home Sweet Home

So Mike and I have been in the new place for 1 week now, and we seem to have it all finally set up. Its in a nice little complex which has a swimming pool and gym and basket
ball courts and tennis courts for our use.

Its located in a nice area, (there are some pretty flash houses on our runs we see) shops nearby and 3miles to Mikes work, so we are able to bike there while its nice outside.

The Little Green car in the outside picture is our new ride - I'll tell more about that next blog.

All else is going well here, running is going well. Just need to get a job - just helping out at the moment at the shoe store.
Its hot as here today is around 30 and humid which means when we go for a run and we finish it looks like we have jumped into a pool, even in the morning, I wish we had. its so gross.
Lucky our apartment has AC to help keep a little cool on these days.

It is located on the south
shore
of
Long
Island:

New Home

So Mike and I will be moving Friday 14th August to our new home. Wednesday we sign the lease but we have been approved for it and all looks good.
The place is in Bayport which is 3miles from the Shoe store Mike works at and where I am helping at the moment - until I find a job - not much success in that department at the moment.
It is an apartment complex - we looked at a few homes, but not much luck with anything there so we thought we would give this place a go. Carpet is still being put in kitchen is all new, so thats cool. its a 1 bedroom, ground floor apartment - when we move in I will send the pics. It has a pool and fitness centre all included, and tennis courts, basketball courts and a BBQ area.

One Bedroom Floor Plan
715 Sq Ft

Floor Image

This is the floor plan of the place, so hopefully it ends up being ok. Will get you more details on it once we are in.

SNAKE!!!!

So the other day Mike and I were out for our run, in Belmont trails when I came across my first Garden snake - its the only snake I believe Long Island has.
Mike was about to step on and had not seen it until i scared the crap out of him with my yell - he wasn't quite sure what was actually going on till I stayed where I was until the snake decided what way it wanted to go.
and that is pretty much the size of it - tho this one may have been a little shorter.

Thank goodness I do not live in a part of America which has actual snakes!

I think Mike has finally recovered from his heart attack.

Last Weeks in NZ

I now sit in the heat of the New York Summer, sweating just while I sit outside and read. But I would like to share the adventures of my last few weeks in New Zealand.Starting with the Birth of my newest Niece Sasha Joy.

Then I was off to the South
Island - Ross to be exact, to visit my two other nieces - Kaylee and Danielle who are horse mad

We went for an adventure across to Christchurch and on the way found some sweet slopes

We check out the sweet land that the Roberts were buying beautiful views of the mountains and a river down the road

Everyone was buying things - Nat was getting his new ride

and then it was time to say Bye to all and head on my new adventure in the USA with my husband - hope to keep this up to date for you all to see whats going on here.
